Unser Auftrag ist die Verbesserung der Entscheidungs­findung in der Gesundheitsversorgung.

Neu zur klinischen Anwendung kommende Technologien müssen für Patienten nachgewiesenermassen nützlich und sicher sein, sowie Kriterien der Wirtschaftlichkeit erfüllen.

Ceb verbindet akademische und klinische Expertise mit einem Sinn für Wirtschaftlichkeit. Wir verstehen die spezifischen Bedürfnisse der Entscheidungsfindung auf allen Ebenen der Gesundheitsversorgung.

Wir untersuchen neue oder etablierte Technologien und liefern Evidenz zu Nutzen, Schaden und Wirtschaftlichkeit als Grundlage für die Entscheidungsfindung von Patienten, medizinischem Personal, Entscheidungsträgern in der Gesundheitspolitik und für die Industrie.

Wir entwickeln und vermitteln die Methoden der evidenzbasierten Medizin, um die Qualität der Forschung zu verbessern und die Wirksamkeit von Technologien in der Praxis zu prüfen.

Unser Ziel ist eine evidenzbasierte Gesundheitsversorgung auf lokaler, nationaler und internationaler Ebene.

Sehr geehrte Leserin, sehr geehrter Leser

Das medizinische Versorgungssystem steht vor enormen Herausforderungen. Der Bedarf nach medizinischen Leistungen wird in allen Teilen der Welt immer grösser, bedingt durch den enormen und raschen Zuwachs von Wissen und Möglichkeiten in der Medizin und der daraus folgenden Nachfrage. Leider gibt es hierbei Probleme.

Neues Wissen in der Medizin ist oft ungenügend überprüft bezüglich seiner Evidenz, der Wirksamkeit im konkreten klinischen Alltag und bezüglich des tatsächlichen Nutzens für Patienen. Zudem wird Wissen von ausgewiesener Evidenz oft unzureichend oder verzögert in die Praxis umgesetzt.

Hier setzt unsere Tätigkeit in Lehre und Forschung an. Was immer wir tun, zielt letztlich darauf, neues Wissen auf seine Evidenz zu prüfen, und die gängige medizinsche Praxis durch Wissen von ausgewiesener Evidenz zu erneuern, welches im klinischen Alltag den Patienten Nutzen bringt.

Das Basel Institut für klinische Epidemiologie und Biostatistik ceb wurde im Jahre 2001 gegründet. Die Gründer hatten mit diesem Schritt eine klare Vision, die Entwicklung von evidenzbasierten Entscheidungsgrundlagen für die Patientenversorgung und für die Zuteilung von Ressourcen im Gesundheitswesen zu fördern. Für die Forschung und den Betrieb des Instituts haben die Gründer deshalb eine Stiftung geschaffen.

Seit seiner Gründung hat das Institut eindrückliche Leistungen und Ergebnisse in der Patienten orientierten klinischen Forschung, der Vermittlung von Know-How in der klinischen Forschung und der Anwendung der evidenzgestützten Medizin erbracht.

Als Präsident der Stiftung möchte ich allen Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern und den Stiftern für ihren erfolgreichen Einsatz für die Patienten orientierte Forschung danken. Ihre Arbeit steht für neue Ideen, kritisches Denken und ein Bekenntnis zur Innovation im Interesse einer Patienten gerechten medizinischen Versorgung.

Unser Team

Das Institut beschäftigt Spezialisten aus den verschiedensten Bereichen der Gesundheitswissenschaften: Ärzte, klinische Epidemiologen, Biostatistiker, Gesundheitsökonomen, Pharmakologen und Data Manager. Wir arbeiten eng vernetzt mit Klinikern am Universitätsspital und Forschern der Universität Basel sowie Forschern aus dem In- und Ausland zusammen. Interdisziplinarität ist eine Stärke unserer Arbeit.

Für unsere Arbeit ist der direkte Bezug zu Klinikern und Patienten ganz entscheidend. Durch den Bezug zur praktischen Patientenbetreuung erkennen wir aus eigener Anschauung die Probleme der Patientenversorgung und können besser Lösungsvorschläge erarbeiten.

Aus diesem Grund ist unsere Abteilung in das Universitätsspital integriert. Diese enge räumliche und fachliche Verbindung garantiert den Fokus auf wichtige, patientenorientierte Forschungsfragen mit dem erklärten Ziel, die Entscheidungsgrundlagen in der Patientenversorgung zu verbessern.
